TN native. Our main native large cherry species, native to every state east of Nebraska. A large tree with drooping racemes of white flowers that eventually produce little dark red berries that turn almost black by Fall. Pretty wood furniture is made from this tree, which is commonly called “Cherry”, or “Red Cherry” wood. Many wildlife creatures love the berries. The small leaves are a typical elliptical shape and begin falling early in Summer in many areas, which causes considerable litter for months.
