Silver Maple

TN native. Native to much of the eastern U.S. to the Midwest states.  Loves lowland areas with periodic minor standing water, but can be planted on drier uplands with success.  Has a nice dissected leaf that is silvery beneath and is attractive when the wind blows. It grows fast and can get large quick. Highly planted in TN from 1940 till 1990’s, when its negatives were finally realized in human settled areas.  Negatives such as short lifespan, soft breakable wood, and roots that rise and also invade utility lines.
